If just for one day...

Contributed by Rtr Harnniann

You wake up every morning to a wonderful sunshine
You are able to walk into the bathroom
You are able to control the temperature of the shower
Your towel is washed every 3 days
Yet, all these are meaningless to you…
“Oh no, it’s another working day” you say

You enter the dining room to the aromatic smell of the coffee
You are able to maneuver the folk and spoon
You are able to reach over the far end of the dining table
You are able to choose tea over coffee
Your breakfast is served every morning
Yet, all these are meaningless to you…
“Oh no, the eggs are over boiled” you say

If just for one day, not much I would say
Your neck lost its strength
Your nerves betrayed you
Your limbs no longer yours
Your wheelchair becomes your permanent seat
Would you then, miss the wonderful sunshine? or the aromatic smell of the coffee?

Your start the car engine and turn on the morning radio
You are able to pick the songs you like
You are able to shift the gear to your desired speed
You are able to beat the red light
Your car overtakes motorbikes and bicycles
Yet, all these are meaningless to you…
“Oh no, I hate traffic jam” you say

You sit in an air-conditioned room to start your work
You are able to sort out the disorganized documents
You are able to joke with your colleagues
You are able to put what you’ve learned into practice
Your pay cheque writes four figures
Yet, all these are meaningless to you…
“Oh no, if I could have a better job” you say.

If just for one day, not much I would say
Your neck lost its strength
Your nerves betrayed you
Your limbs no longer yours
Your wheelchair becomes your permanent seat
Would you then, miss the traffic jam? or the hectic working life?

Specially dedicated to John Chong

The Genting trip sure looks fun. I've missed the actions done by those who went up with Ah John. You guys have definitely carved a smile at Ah John's face. He'll remember those moments he spent with you guys for sure.

Thank you IPP Toh, Rtr Eng Tee, Rtr Lloyd & partner for spending the day with Ah John. We Rotaract Club of Port Klang Centennial are proud of what you all have done and have changed the life of someone unfortunate.

Hi,

I sincerely hope that more members will take part in project like this.

It is definitely a very different Genting Trip from the ones we had. The lessons and experience we had are something money couldn't buy.

John may have other places he wants to go but never been. Are you ready then?

Thanks! :)

Recalling the last time i have come across someone less fortunate way 2 months back when visited grandpa..

Tho Uncle Robert wasnt having difficulties as like Ah John, but he has lose his both eye sight due to some disease..relying on senses like hearing, smell and taste to start off his day..

And this hit me hard when i was visualising puting myself in his shoe..life would be so so so MEANINGLESS.. What Uncle Robert have picture about the world was way 20 years back..(Once working in a Bank in Spore and now......)

So..as an average person we should be thankful and appreciate what we have and be mindful..and not taking granted ..

By the way, is that a SONG compose to Ah John, IPP?

We should be grateful with the life we had right now. Treasure your life while you still can and complaining about how difficult your day can be will lead you to no where. We should have tried out more activities done by Rotaract Club more often. For instance, I believe Ah John had never tried out scuba diving due to this difficulties and I bet he would want to give it a try if he had the chance. We have given the opportunity by gods to experience all these while we still can so treasure them.

Come across a saying which still stick at the back of my mind, it goes something like :

"Don't complain no shoes to wear, where others don't even have feet."
